Our client is seeking a highly motivated and professional Legal Assistant to provide comprehensive legal, administrative, research, and governance support within a fast-paced political environment. This exciting opportunity is ideally suited to an individual with strong legal knowledge, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while engaging confidently with stakeholders from all walks of life. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting Political Representatives through effective legal research, legislative analysis, governance support, compliance monitoring, and stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities Provide professional legal and administrative support to Political Representatives. Conduct legal research and analysis on legislation, regulations, governance frameworks, public policy, and constitutional matters. Monitor legislative developments, legal amendments, government notices, and regulatory changes, providing relevant summaries and guidance. Draft legal correspondence, opinions, reports, briefing notes, memoranda, submissions, and governance-related documents. Assist with the interpretation and application of legislation, regulations, policies, and governance frameworks. Support the preparation of legal and policy submissions, parliamentary questions, motions, and governance-related documentation. Liaise professionally with members of the public, community stakeholders, government departments, regulatory bodies, and other organizations. Assist with constituency matters involving legal, governance, regulatory, or administrative concerns. Support parliamentary, legislature, committee, compliance, and governance-related processes. Maintain accurate records, legal documents, case files, databases, and confidential information in accordance with governance requirements.
Requirements Relevant tertiary qualification in Law (LLB preferred), Legal Studies, Governance, Public Administration, or a related field. Previous experience in a legal, governance, compliance, legislative, public policy, governmental, or administrative support role. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong legal drafting and professional business writing abilities. Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to prepare reports, legal documents, presentations, and formal correspondence. Strong administrative and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to interpret legislation, regulations, governance frameworks, parliamentary procedures, and legal documentation. Sound understanding of South Africa's legal, governance, constitutional, and legislative environment. Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to evaluate legal and regulatory developments. Ability to draft legal opinions, submissions, reports, briefing notes, governance documents, and stakeholder communications. Proficiency in more than one language will be advantageous. Ability to work flexible and irregular hours when required, often under pressure and within demanding deadlines. Understanding of parliamentary structures, legislative processes, governance frameworks, and public sector regulatory environments will be advantageous.
